The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is a governmental agency that delivers the bulk of Official Development Assistance (ODA) for the government of Japan.

On May 4, 2021, at the headquarters of Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam (IP VIETNAM), leaders of Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam (IP VIETNAM) and counterparts of the JICA officially announced the commencement of the project “Advance processing capacity of industrial property applications at Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam”.

This has been the 4th ODA project funded by JICA to Vietnam in the field of intellectual property since 2000. The project will be jointly implemented by the parties for 2-year period, from 2021 to 2023, focusing on the patent field, specifically assisting IP VIETNAM to develop quality management (QM) documents of patent examination, to further complete the current examination guideline for Patent and Utility Model in Vietnam and to supplement guidance on examination of invention applications in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), internet of things (IoT) and computer software.
